Kings Sutton is our World Textile Day in the heart of England. We've been coming here for many years and love bringing our textile treasures from around the world together in this beautiful village setting. Here are some pix of us setting up previous outings. Enjoy!

Although Kings Sutton was the venue for SashikoFest last year, which this year is taking place at Frodsham, Cheshire on 24th May, all our SashikoFest Traders are coming to World Textile Day Central this year. We also have some great new traders joining the WTD team at Kings Sutton for the first time.

Talks -

11am - Bog Fashion – Recreating Bronze and Iron Age Clothes - Nicole DeRushie

Author of the recently published 'Bog Fashion', Nicole has studied these amazing textiles of the Bronze and Iron Ages from archeological finds, and will be sharing her knowledge with you today. Explore the impressive skills behind these garments and find an appreciation for the many ways these clothes still speak to us today. There will also be an exhibition of garments recreated for the book, and a chance to buy a signed copy.

2pm - Kawandi: quilts of the Siddi people of western India and southern Pakistan - Bryn Pratt-Boyden

The Siddis of western India and southern Pakistan are descendants of early African immigrants and of enslaved Africans brought to western India by the Portuguese and other groups from the sixteenth century onwards. Although the Siddis have adopted many Indian characteristics, there are still some cultural elements that are regarded as their own and of African origin. These include the making and use of patchwork quilts, known locally as kawandi, with stunning colourful, abstract designs, and a unique making method. Be inspired by the stitching of the Siddis.

Please note: In order to reward our speakers, we charge a modest fee for our morning and afternoon talks. Each talk is £6, or buy both tickets at once for just £10! Tickets on the door.

Plus: delicious onsite catering and refreshments all day
